Ohio · True take-home pay for where you actually live
Cleveland’s municipal income tax is 2.5%, the same headline rate as Columbus, on qualifying wages earned in the city. Ohio’s state tax of 2.75% above $26,050 still applies after the personal exemption. The city page exists so a Northeast Ohio offer is not estimated with Columbus selected by accident, and so the stub names Cleveland when that is the withholding city.
Traditional 401(k) deferrals reduce the municipal base in this Ohio model. Credits between a home city and a work city are not computed, so choosing Cleveland alone can overstate the total if you already pay another municipality. Uncheck live-here only if your situation truly changes the rate; Cleveland’s published rate is the same for residents and nonresidents in this file.
Other Cuyahoga suburbs and Ohio cities need their own percent in the custom field. Do not borrow Cleveland’s 2.5% for a village that charges 1% or 2%. The state page starts with no city selected on purpose.

Cleveland is modeled as a flat local tax: 2.5% for residents and 2.5% for nonresidents (when the rates differ). Use the live-here switch for resident versus nonresident treatment. Cleveland's municipal income tax rate is 2.5%. Same qualifying-wage and one-city credit limits as the Columbus model.
Credits, itemized deductions, multi-state credits, property tax, sales tax, and unsourced local rates are not included. Employer payroll tables can differ from this annualized estimate. This Cleveland page does not invent taxes that are missing from the 2026 data files.
Both are modeled at 2.5%. Select the city that actually withholds on your stub.
Yes. The municipal tax is on top of the state’s 2.75% above $26,050.
